Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 30, 2026 · Last updated: May 30, 2026
InEgypt is developed by Ahmed Elawady, an independent developer based in Egypt. This policy explains how the InEgypt iOS application handles your information.
The short version: InEgypt does not require an account and does not collect your name, email, or phone number. We use anonymous product analytics (PostHog) to understand how the app is used, and Meta's advertising SDK to measure the effectiveness of our ads. You can turn analytics off in the app's Settings at any time, and the Apple-provided tracking prompt lets you allow or deny advertising attribution. Trip plans, expenses, favorites, notes and similar content stay on your device.
1. Information We Collect
InEgypt collects the minimum information necessary to provide its features, measure our advertising, and improve the product:
- Location Data — When you grant permission, the app accesses your location while the app is in use to find nearby transit stops, calculate routes from your current position, and (optionally) deliver proximity alerts for nearby attractions. Location data is processed on your device and is not transmitted to any server we operate.
- Device Information (Support Only) — If you contact support via the in-app email feature, your device model, iOS version, and app version are included in the email so we can help you. This only happens when you explicitly send a support email.
- Language & Preferences — Your selected app language, preferred currency, and similar settings are stored locally on your device.
- Trip Planner & Expense Content — Trips you create, places you save, itinerary stops, notes, photos you pick as backgrounds, and expenses you log are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to any server we operate.
- Custom Place Categories — Categories you create to organize places (and the keywords you enter) are stored locally on your device and are sent to Apple Maps only as POI search queries (see "Third-Party Services" below).
- Anonymous Product Analytics — When analytics are enabled (default ON; togglable in Settings), the app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog. This includes screens visited, taps such as "trip created" or "route searched", an anonymous device identifier generated by PostHog (not your IDFA), your app language, country derived from device locale, app/OS version, and your subscription status. We do not send your name, email, contacts, address book, or precise location to PostHog.
- Subscription Identifier — When you start a trial or purchase a subscription, the anonymous original transaction identifier issued by Apple's StoreKit is linked to your anonymous analytics profile so we can measure conversion and provide support. We never receive your Apple ID, name, email, or payment details from Apple.
- Advertising & App Events — When you authorize tracking via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt, the Meta (Facebook) SDK collects your advertising identifier (IDFA), app events such as installs, first launches and in-app purchases, your IP address, and basic device information. If you do not authorize tracking, only limited, non-identifying aggregate event data is sent (as required by Apple's SKAdNetwork framework).
- On-device Search Queries — When you use features that query third-party services (for example, searching Unsplash for a trip background photo, opening a GetYourGuide tour widget, or fetching currency rates), the relevant query terms are sent directly to that service. We do not see or store these queries on any server we operate.
- Coordinates Sent to WeatherKit — When the app fetches weather for a trip, the city's approximate coordinates are sent to Apple's WeatherKit service. Your personal coordinates are not sent.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We want to be clear about what we do not do:
- We do not require account creation or registration
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or contact list
- We do not collect background location data
- We do not access your photos, camera, microphone, or contacts
- We do not sell your personal data
- We do not use cross-app tracking outside the choices you make in the ATT prompt
3. How We Use Information
The limited information described above is used exclusively for:
- Calculating transit routes from your current location
- Displaying nearby transit stops, attractions, and points of interest
- Generating trip itineraries from curated and Apple Maps data
- Tracking trip expenses and converting currencies locally on your device
- Displaying weather for cities included in your trips
- Sending optional proximity alerts and trip-related notifications you have enabled
- Managing local cache and offline content on your device
- Understanding which features are used and which screens are visited, so we can prioritize improvements
- Measuring the performance of our advertising campaigns and understanding how users find the app
4. Data Storage
The app stores the following data on your device to provide its features:
- Favorites & Preferences — Stored in your device's local storage
- Trips, Itineraries, Saved Places, Notes & Expenses — Stored locally on your device; can be deleted by removing each item or clearing the app data
- Custom Place Categories — Stored locally on your device
- Cached Images — Temporarily stored on your device; can be cleared from Settings → "Clear Cache"
- App Content — Transit, attraction and city data is bundled within the app to support offline use. Some features (maps, photos, weather, tours, currency rates) require an active internet connection.
We do not operate our own servers for personal data storage. Anonymous analytics events are transmitted directly from your device to PostHog. Advertising-related events are transmitted directly from your device to Meta. Each is governed by the third party's own privacy policy (linked below).
5. Analytics
InEgypt uses PostHog (an open-source product analytics platform) to understand how the app is used and to improve it. Here is exactly how it works:
- What is collected: screens viewed, taps such as "trip created", "route searched", "favorite added", paywall views and purchases; an anonymous device identifier generated by PostHog; your app language; the device country derived from locale; app/OS version; and subscription status (e.g. free vs. Pro, active plan type).
- What is not collected: your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, exact location, search terms you type into the location search, or any free-text you enter (trip names, notes, expense memos).
- Where the data goes: directly from your device to PostHog's US-hosted servers (us.i.posthog.com). It is subject to PostHog's Privacy Policy.
- Your control: open Settings → App Settings → "Share anonymous usage" in the app and toggle it off. When off, no further events are sent. This is independent of the ATT prompt below.
6. Advertising
InEgypt uses the Meta (Facebook) SDK to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns that bring users to the app. Here is exactly how it works:
- Your choice comes first. Shortly after onboarding, iOS shows the system App Tracking Transparency prompt asking whether you allow tracking. You can choose "Allow" or "Ask App Not to Track". Your choice is fully respected.
- If you allow tracking: the Meta SDK collects your advertising identifier (IDFA), app events such as launch and purchase, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, device model, OS version, and app version.
- If you decline: only anonymized, aggregated install and conversion data is sent via Apple's SKAdNetwork framework — no identifiers, no individual tracking.
- Where the data goes: directly from your device to Meta's servers. It is subject to Meta's Data Policy.
- Changing your mind: change your tracking choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → InEgypt. You can also manage how Meta uses advertising data about you at facebook.com/ads/preferences.
7. Third-Party Services
InEgypt uses the following third-party services. Each handles only the data described and is governed by its own privacy policy:
- PostHog — Anonymous product analytics. See section 5. Subject to PostHog's Privacy Policy.
- Meta (Facebook) SDK — Advertising attribution and conversion measurement. See section 6. Subject to Meta's Privacy Policy.
- Apple MapKit — For map display, place lookup, and the points-of-interest search used by the trip planner and custom categories. Search queries are sent to Apple. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple StoreKit — For processing in-app purchases and subscriptions. All payment information is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your payment details, name, or Apple ID. Apple provides us with an anonymous original transaction identifier we use to recognize active subscribers and link conversions to anonymous analytics.
- Apple CloudKit — For loading attraction images and content from the InEgypt public CloudKit container. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple WeatherKit — For weather information shown in the trip planner. City coordinates are sent to Apple. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple SKAdNetwork — Apple's privacy-preserving framework for measuring ad conversions without identifying individual users.
- Apple App Tracking Transparency — Apple's framework that lets you grant or deny tracking permission per-app.
- Apple UserNotifications — For delivering local proximity alerts and trip-related reminders you opt into.
- Apple Spotlight & App Intents — For indexing attractions, cities and stops so they appear in iOS Spotlight search and Siri suggestions. Indexing happens on your device.
- ExchangeRate-API (exchangerate-api.com) — For fetching currency exchange rates used by the converter and expense tracker. We send only a request for the base currency (e.g. USD). No personal data is sent. Subject to ExchangeRate-API's Privacy Policy.
- Unsplash (unsplash.com) — For browsing trip background photos. Search keywords you type are sent to Unsplash. Standard HTTP headers (such as IP address) are sent by the system. Subject to Unsplash's Privacy Policy.
- GetYourGuide (getyourguide.com) — Tours and activities are shown via GetYourGuide's official affiliate embed widget inside an in-app web view. When you open it, GetYourGuide may set cookies and collect standard web analytics (including IP address). InEgypt earns an affiliate commission on qualifying bookings. Subject to GetYourGuide's Privacy Policy.
- Nuke (Open Source) — An image loading library that caches images locally on your device. It does not collect or transmit any data.
8. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions
InEgypt offers optional Pro plans — auto-renewing subscriptions (weekly, monthly, yearly) and a one-time Lifetime purchase. All transactions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID. Purchase records are managed by Apple and can be viewed in your App Store account.
Apple shares an anonymous original transaction identifier with us so we can recognize active subscribers across devices, restore purchases, and link conversion to anonymous analytics. Purchase events may also be reported to Meta for ad attribution if you have authorized tracking. Full subscription terms are in our Terms of Use.
9. Children's Privacy
InEgypt is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Location Permission
InEgypt requests location access only with the "While Using the App" permission level. The app never requests "Always" location access and does not track your location in the background. You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings, and the app will continue to function — you will simply need to enter locations manually.
11. Notifications Permission
InEgypt may request notification permission after onboarding to deliver:
- Proximity alerts — Optional alerts when you are near a favorite attraction or saved place. Triggered locally by iOS; no data leaves your device for this.
- Trip reminders — Optional reminders for the trip planner (for example, an "unplanned destination" prompt). Scheduled locally on your device.
You can grant or revoke notification permission at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → InEgypt. All notifications are scheduled locally on your device; we do not operate a push server.
12. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable laws (such as the GDPR in the EU, the UK GDPR, or the CCPA/CPRA in California) to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal data held about you.
Because InEgypt does not collect direct personal identifiers, most rights can be exercised directly:
- Device data (favorites, trips, expenses, cached content): clear from the app's Settings or by uninstalling.
- Anonymous analytics: toggle off in Settings → "Share anonymous usage". To request deletion of historical events, contact us and include the device's PostHog distinct ID if you can supply it from a recent session.
- Advertising data: change your ATT choice in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and use Meta's ad preferences to manage Meta's profile.
- Subscription records: managed by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com or your App Store account.
For any other request, email us at the address in section 15 and we will respond within a reasonable time.
13. International Transfers
Because InEgypt uses US-based services (PostHog, Apple, Meta, GetYourGuide, Unsplash, ExchangeRate-API), data described above may be processed in the United States and other countries. By using the app, you acknowledge such transfers. Each third party is responsible for its own transfer mechanism (Standard Contractual Clauses, etc.) as described in their privacy policies linked above.
14. Data Security
Transit data files are encrypted and stored within the app bundle. All network communication uses industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS). Analytics and advertising data transmitted to PostHog and Meta is secured in transit by their infrastructure. We rely on Apple's standard sandboxing for on-device data protection.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after the updated effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
